Housed in the former ferry terminal at Sakate Port, this community complex grew from island volunteers’ collective ideas. Inside, the furniture is part workshop-made, part gifted by residents. A flexible shared kitchen and theater make it a place that draws people, ideas, and things from across and beyond the island. The logo—characters written by the island’s children, put together at random—reflects the spirit of the place. Leaving the form undefined is an invitation: a door open to anyone with something they want to try.

Temple Hopping and a Cold Local Beer
The temples on Shodoshima’s pilgrimage circuit are close together, and the views are breathtaking. Perfect for a relaxed hike rather than a formal pilgrimage. From Sakate Port, a route through the inner sanctuary of the 3rd temple, Hayamayama; the 1st temple, Douunzan; the 2nd temple, Goishiyama; and the 3rd temple, Kannonji takes about three hours. Back at the port, reward yourself with a local beer at the “Mamemame Beer Brewery” or the “Mamemame Beer Shokudo” inside “neiw.”
