Where Travelers Wait for the Wind | shimahaku
Every door opens onto a distinct world.
From floors and ceilings to furniture, each room is shaped by its own design sensibility—a thoughtful collection of spaces for every kind of stay.
Close to Tonosho Port, the gateway to the island,
where you can also find “shimameshi” and “shimayu.”
A journey with loved ones, or an extended stay to truly know Shodoshima—
we look forward to welcoming you and accompanying you through every moment of your stay.
space
2F
The second floor exposes the structural frame. A 4.5-meter ceiling opens the space upward; below, the hinoki bath flows unpartitioned, seamless within the whole. The shower unit glows softly like a lantern in the room.
3F
Finished in lithin coating and FRP—materials borrowed from exterior walls and ship hulls—the third floor has a quiet, durable character. Semi-transparent FRP fittings and a table give the space a gentle, shifting quality.

In this program, participants descend a staircase from the main hall into an underground passage directly beneath the principal deity,

“shimameshi” celebrates seasonal ingredients from Shodoshima and the wider Seto Inland Sea. Chefs deeply versed in the flavors of the Seto Inland Sea prepare freshly caught fish from trusted local fishermen and sun-ripened vegetables, transforming them into dishes that let every ingredient shine.
“Shodoshima Onsen Shio-no-Yu” is the first natural hot spring to emerge on Shodoshima. A chloride spring evocative of the island’s heritage of salt production, it has long been embraced by local residents. Rich in sodium and magnesium, the waters condition the skin and warm the body to its core. The löyly sauna and cold plunge deepen the experience, freeing both body and mind.
